Wedding Wishes Come True For Veteran Couple At Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh

At Kimpton, we know how to throw one heck of a wedding. We also love giving back to our deserving military community. So, when the opportunity came for our Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh to host a customized, unforgettable dream wedding for one lucky veteran couple, we jumped in full force.

The Warrior Wedding Giveaway sought out military couples with a Pittsburgh connection to share their love story and why they should be considered to win an all-expenses-paid wedding. To our excitement, dozens of heartfelt stories poured in, but the hardest part was narrowing them down to just three couples. The finalists’ stories were shared in a Facebook contest, where Matthew Brown and Hannah Reese’s emotional journey was voted worthy of the win.

McKeesport, PA natives Hannah and Matt met nearly six years ago after Matt returned home from a year-long deployment in Iraq. From the day they met, Matt said Hannah turned his life around and lovingly refers to the mother of his two children, Alayna, four years old, and Colton, almost a year old, as his hero. Life would try and test the two as their son Colton was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at just three months old. This meant putting their wedding plans on hold as nearly all of the family’s time and funds were spent supporting their son and advocating for a cure for his debilitating disease.

As the winners of the Warrior Wedding Giveaway, Matt and Hannah’s dreams of a fairy tale Steel City wedding finally became true.  Thanks to the kind and generous donations of the best in Pittsburgh’s wedding community, including wedding planner Bonnie Walker of Bonnie Walker Events, Kim Racan of studio-e entertainment, Revolution Events, Troy and Theodora Polamalu’s The Harry Panos Fund for Veterans and Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, on December 13, Matt and Hannah said “I do” in front of 100 of their closest family and friends. The extravagant five-hour ceremony and reception in Hotel Monaco’s Sofia and Sheffield Ballrooms included touching moments such as the couple’s two children leading their gorgeous mom down the aisle, the couple’s first dance to Gary Racan and the studio-e band’s rendition of Lonestar’s “Amazed,” and a moving and emotional military tribute to the tune of “God Bless the USA.”

The night saw the couple’s dreams come true, but in reality all of those involved received the greatest gift of all, a reminder to appreciate what is truly important in life and to give back with open arms in the way we best know how, over-the-top hospitality and personalized, heartfelt care.

This is beautiful and I wish this lovely couple the best. I am a 10 year Army Veteran stationed at Fort Drum, NY

This Soldier is not a Marine with the 2nd Marine Division. He is in the US Army. Small mistake on the grand scheme of this story however a big deal to the troops. Thanks.
