When you’re tasked with putting together a company offsite, try this trick: Take the road less traveled. We believe in breaking the mold — or, in this case, the regular ol’ conference room. Instead of doing a typical sit-down, we love to create a unique setting, vibe and itinerary — and let the creativity soar.
One way to do this is by infusing your meeting with local flavor. Here are three unique experiences that our hotels are offering. Each immerses attendees in the spirit of their city.
- BIKING IN PORTLAND
Portland is one of the most pedal-friendly cities around. Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland has teamed up with Community Cycling Center, a nonprofit that donates bikes and provides after school safety programs to in-need kids, for a meeting initiative. When a group books a meeting or corporate retreat at the hotel, they can buy bikes straight off the catering menu. Bikes are assembled during a team-building exercise, with the help of Community Cycling Center staff. Of course, riding through the city is a given; the hotel actually has a fleet of 20-plus bikes for guests to ride if they feel inspired.
- BEER TASTING IN SAN DIEGO
While you’re in a microbrew city, it’s only natural to gather with suds in hand. With a “venture out” add-on to a meeting package at Kimpton Hotel Palomar San Diego and Kimpton Solamar Hotel, you embark on a private ” Bites and Booze” tour. The two-and-a-half-hour walking tour includes food and beer tastings from some of downtown’s best restaurants and microbreweries, including Solamar’s Jsix.
- WINE SIPPING & PADDLE BOARDING IN SANTA BARBARA
This is another spirited option to get everyone out of the corporate box. Raise a glass with the “stay in” option at Kimpton Canary Hotel. Your group can gather on the hotel’s picturesque rooftop for local wine tastings and food pairings, held in partnership with local wineries. Take it a step further with the “venture out” experience, where you can master your standup paddle boarding skills as a team, with a 90-minute guided lesson on the beach or at the marina.
We hope these inspire you to think locally and with the help of our staff get creative with your next meeting.
