Too busy traveling to buy gifts? Fortunately, many Kimpton hotels are located in the middle of lively shopping neighborhoods, so finding presents on the road is a snap.
Every Thursday for the next four weeks, we’ll pick a different city and show you the best shopping within minutes of a Kimpton spot. First up, New York City.
The Hotel:
The Muse Hotel
The Neighborhood:
Times Square
The Muse Hotel offers sanctuary from the city’s most chaotic neighborhood. Contrary to what you might think, there’s more to the area than souvenir shops.
You’re in one of the world’s fashion capitals, so start on a stylish note at Alice + Olivia and nab founder/designer Stacey Bendet’s tank dresses. Feeling adventurous? Dig through beads and silver chains at Metalliferous, a metal supply shop where you can piece together your own unique accessory. For the lads on your list, the dapper London import Charles Tyrwhitt has quintessential go-to gifts: woven silk ties.
In a nod to Broadway (of course), search for soundtrack treasures at the Tin Pan Alley relic, Colony. A 1962 recording of Gypsy may wait. If you know a fine art enthusiast, head to the shop at the International Center of Photography for a coffee table book, print, or poster – many tied in to the attached museum’s current exhibitions.
A collector’s bottle of wine is an oenophile’s dream, and you’ll find a wide selection at Rockefeller Center’s expertly staffed Morrell & Company. The Center’s towering illuminated spruce will leave you feeling merry, bright, and happy with your day of shopping.
