Have you seen the list? Travel + Leisure is out with its World’s Best Awards for 2013. The 18th annual readers’ poll has all kinds of savvy choices, from Tuscan castles and luxury safari camps to the best islands (Palawan, Philippines!), airports and airlines.
So we’re beyond thrilled to see that our own Hotel Monaco Portland was named one of the top 50 big-city hotels in the continental U.S.
Yup, right there alongside swanky celeb haunts in Beverly Hills and glitzy Vegas resorts, is the Rose City’s beloved Monaco. Set inside a building that was erected in 1912 to house a department store, our 221-room property is the poster child for all things Kimpton: The chill-out wine hour, pet friendly accommodations, stellar service, creative design, environmental consciousness and a great restaurant taking care of you from breakfast to nightcap.
And since we like to reflect our hometowns, of course there’s an extra-special emphasis here on animals and bikes. In Portland, both are considered part of the family. So we have Timmy, a yellow lab who’s our Director of Pet Relations, to welcome you and your furry family members, as well as a fleet of complimentary bikes just waiting to be jumped on for a cruise alongside the Willamette River.
Pets lucky enough to stay here can even avail themselves of a pet psychic or masseuse. (For those guests who can’t watch an episode of Lassie without sneezing, the Hotel Monaco also has a completely hypoallergenic floor.) And you can get a bike workout without even leaving the hotel — every Friday the “smoothie bike” makes an appearance. You can use pedal power to blend your way to a fruit smoothie … or come wine hour, a cocktail. Nice. Check out the video here.
So congrats to General Manager Craig Thompson and his staff at the Hotel Monaco Portland … and thanks especially to all you T+L readers who voted for us. The pleasure is all ours.
