Dale Chihuly does some amazing things with glass. The guy’s a living legend and his bold, colorful and pioneering work is shown in more than 200 museum collections all over the world. Now through November, the Denver Botanic Gardens has Chihuly, too, which is extra special because it’s his first major outdoor exhibition in the Rocky Mountain Region. Hotel Monaco Denver has your VIP tickets to see all kinds of Chihuly glass sculptures spread over 24 acres right in the middle of a mile-high urban jungle. That’s just plain cool.
When you book a Chihuly package at Hotel Monaco, you’ll get a pair of VIP tickets that get you to the front of the line, no matter what time you show up. If you go on Friday through Sunday, you’ll also get a personally guided tour with a docent who knows what’s what and could probably tell you more about glass art than you thought you’d ever know. Locals know the best time to see it is at twilight because the sculptures are lit and there’s still light in the sky, too. Hotel Monaco will also welcome you with deluxe accommodations, a bottle of wine from Washington (Chihuly’s home state), as well as our complimentary coffee and tea service in the morning and free wine tasting in the evening.
The Dale Chihuly exhibit is a big deal, but it’s not the only artsy pursuit in Denver. Just about a mile from Hotel Monaco is the Denver Art Museum, ground zero for offbeat and cheeky events at Untitled Final Fridays held the last Friday of every month (through October, anyway). You can mix, mingle, pick up a creative skill, or just revel in some sweet people-watching.
The River North Art District, what locals call “RiNo,” (sounds like “rhino” … and not to be confused with LoDo) is a hotspot for artsy types with an edge. It’s home to creative businesses, designers, furniture makers, and other artists doing their thing. On the first Friday of every month, dozens of galleries stay open late, creating a festive, fun atmosphere. It’s less than two miles north of Hotel Monaco, and easy to access on one of our PUBLIC bikes via the South Platte River Greenway Trail. We’ll be glad to point you in the right direction.
Then of course, there’s Red Rocks. Against a backdrop of gorgeous mountains, it’s just the greatest place to experience music. Check out musical artists like Foster the People (Aug. 6) and John Legend (Aug. 26). Hotel Monaco knows all about how our guests like their yoga, so something extra special is Yoga on the Rocks, happening Aug. 2, 9 and 16. For $12, join up to 1,600 other yogis to stretch out in front of the sublime.
