Hotel Monaco SLC Raises $33,000 for AIDS Awareness

We can’t resist a party – especially when it’s for a good cause. So imagine the excitement when Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City threw a rock star-themed bash last month to raise money for Utah AIDS Foundation.

The 6th Annual Red Party was held last month at the hotel, and even Lady Gaga showed up (okay, it was an impersonator … but she looked just like the real deal!). Organized by the hotel’s group sales manager and entertainment guru Shawn Jackson (pictured at right), it rallied $33,000 for the nonprofit that provides assistance and expertise to those struggling with AIDS.

Along with faux Gaga, Britney Spears and Beyonce look- and sound-alikes entertained revelers; and Ulysses Collective was on hand to do mini rock star makeovers. Silent and live auctions also brought the noise; prizes included Lady Gaga concert tickets, round-trip airfare on JetBlue, and two-night stays at Kimpton hotels. Food by Bambara, the New American bistro adjacent to the hotel, kept guests revved up throughout the night.

The evening went out with a bang when guests, most wearing feather boas, popped red balloons.

“We are happy to be involved and love putting the party on,” said Jackson. “This year, we raised … $5,000 more than last year, thanks to a special donor that gave $10,000.”

Now that’s something to celebrate.
