Hidden Foodie Gems in Miami

Eat + Drink

Cubanos, piña coladas and stone crabs, oh my! Miami is so hot right now (we’re looking at you, Wynwood), and we’re not just talking about the temperature. Its culinary scene is heating up in the best way possible. Whether you’re hungry or hangry, these seven hidden foodie gems will deliver the flavors you’re after.

An unassuming façade belies the culinary destination within at Boia De.

Zak the Baker: Wynwood

Where diets go to die, Zak the Baker is a colorful bakery in the uber-trendy Wynwood area, and they’re all about the carbs. A mix of New York deli and stylish cafe, the team here is whipping up avocado toast on homemade sourdough and a whitefish platter with handmade bagels. They’re certified Kosher, and you can take their babka to go, thankfully!

AlterQ: Wynwood

Carnivores rejoice, this chef-driven restaurant is all about the meat. From James Beard nominee Brad Kilgore, AlterQ uses responsibly sourced, seasonal ingredients to create beautiful dishes that taste just as good as they look. Their BBQ pulled pork is pure sorcery, and their “Mk Rib” is worth every single calorie.

Boia De: Buena Vista

Miami is crawling with James Beard-nominated chefs, and Alex Meyer and Luciana Giangrandi are local favorites and #couplegoals. Their new restaurant is eclectic and retro with a focus on seasonal ingredients like broccolini and grouper, as well as an extensive list of wines. Hot tip: Boia De is tiny, so be sure to make a reservation in advance.

Minnow Bar: South Beach

Gin is all the rage right now, and it’s no surprise that Kimpton Angler’s gin house, Minnow Bar, is the place to sip and socialize. Its sleek and comfortable outdoor terrace is the ideal place to try a refreshing Honey Dude or a cool Cute Pie while you snack on chips and dip. Afterward, head over to our new seafood-centric restaurant Seawell for a bite, and, of course, another drink.

Palmar: Wynwood

Chinese food, but make it tropical. Palmar, one of Bon Appétit’s best new restaurants, pairs boutique wine and craft beers with handmade dim sum and modern takes on Chinese food classics. Whatever you do, order Palmar’s pork belly bao buns, fried rice, wontons…ah, just order the whole menu.

Kush: Wynwood

Craft beer nerds will feel right at home here. Kush has an extensive and impressive list of craft beers, including local Florida brews on draft. There’s also plenty of indulgent food to soak up the suds, including a hobo Frito pie and a Kush Cubano. Word to the wise, save room for their award-winning homemade key lime pie.

Stiltsville: Sunset Harbor

Stiltsville has everything you could want in a restaurant, ocean views, neighborhood vibes and a killer cocktail menu. Come for Happy Hour and snag a hammock seat and a Dark & Stormy with a Chance of Snow while the sun sets. Then, grab a table for some local stone crabs with mango mustard, buffalo fish wings and the grilled local catch.
