Destinations

Models-Catwalk

Yep, it’s that time of year. Time to break out your mohair jumper and glow-in-the-dark blouson. Just kidding; we don’t know what the trends will be at this year’s New York Fashion Week (known officially as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week). But we do know that from Sept. 4–11, 2014, the Big Apple worships at the sartorial altar. And if you’re in town (and you’re not a fashion editor or an Olsen twin), we’ve rustled up a few ways for you to experience the city at its most stylish.

Killer Heels

Killer High Heels

The art of the heel at Brooklyn Museum.

Not Godzilla in the form of a giant stiletto, instead, the museum exhibit Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe looks at the high-heeled shoe as more than footwear: It’s architecture, power symbol, weapon. With creations from Manolo Blahnik to Alexander McQueen to Christian Louboutin, you’ll not only see shoes in a whole new light, you might also unlock the secrets to understanding women. Sept. 10–Feb. 15, Brooklyn Museum.

Fashion Rocks

Watching Fashion Rocks, a two-hour, 15-performance, runway show-studded extravaganza on TV? #NBD. Watching it live? #ZOMG. Join Ryan Seacrest as he plays host to Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Pitbull, Miranda Lambert, Kiss, Duran Duran, The Band Perry, Rita Ora, Nico & Vinz, Afrojack, and #natch: you. Sept. 9, Barclays Center.
