Cocktails Get Political at Topaz Bar in Washington DC

Eat + Drink

With an election year here and the GOP race in full swing, everyone’s talking politics. And Topaz Bar in Washington DC is adding cocktails to the conversation.

The bar’s 2012 Campaign Cocktail Menu features drinks representing each of the current Republican candidates, and one for President Obama. Even if you aren’t drinking the hopefuls’ Kool-Aid, you’ll want to try their drinks.

Romney Float is a non-alcoholic treat of Old Dominion Root Beer finished with whipped heavy cream and house-made caramel drizzle. A shot of Root Organic Liqueur can be added for those that like the hard stuff.

Rick’s Tea Party tips a hat to Santorum with a mix of green tea-infused Abolut Vodka, Benedictine Liqueur, lemon juice and simple syrup.

Ron’s PBR is a can of the old-school beer that appeals to the younger generations.

Gin-grich and Tonic twists the old classic, as Bluecoat American Dry Gin and Fentimans Tonic Water are topped with a Leopold Bros. Peach Liqueur float.

Home Sweet Home is a nod to the incumbent, President Obama, because it pays homage to the District’s favorite cocktail, The Rickey. It includes Bulleit Bourbon, lime juice, club soda and a hint of pineapple juice.

As the race continues and candidates drop off the ballot, the cocktail affiliated with them will be removed from the menu.

Which means you have to swing by early – and often.

Raise a glass (and your political voice) at Topaz Bar, located at Topaz Hotel, 1733 N. Street NW, Washington DC (202-393-3000 or topazhotel.com).
