Nothing gets us in the mood to celebrate a summer holiday like refreshing cocktails with subtle touches of Americana. Here are three recipes to fete the 4th while lounging poolside or watching bright, beautiful fireworks.
RED: “Sherry Cobbler”
From Lead Bartender Sarah Rosner at Radiator in Washington, DC: “The sherry cobbler was the most popular American cocktail throughout the 1800’s. It popularized the straw and helped the New England ice business take off.”
- 1 thin lime wheel
- 1 thin lemon wheel
- 1 thick orange wheel
- 1 strawberry
- 1 raspberry
- Sugar, to taste
- 2 oz. Lustau Oloroso sherry
- 0.5 oz cinnamon syrup
- 2 drops of vanilla extract
- Mint sprig, for garnish
Muddle the citrus and berries with sugar, to taste. Add the remaining ingredients and swizzle. Pack with ice and serve in a stemless wine glass, garnished with a sprig of mint.
WHITE: “High Planes Drifter”

- 1 oz. Pisco Porton
- 0.5 oz. La Venenosa Raicilla Costa
- 0.5 oz. St-Germain
- 1 oz. lime juice
- 0.5 oz. Coco Lopez cream of coconut
- Micro shiso, for garnish
Blend all of the ingredients with a pint of ice. Pour into a glass of your choice and garnish with a few micro shiso leaves.
BLUE: “The Royal Aqua Marine”

- 1.5 oz. Plantation 3-star rum
- 1 oz. Bombay Sapphire gin
- 0.5 oz. Blue Curaçao
- 0.5 oz. Falernum
- 0.75 oz. Coco Lopez cream of coconut
- Juice of 1/2 lime
- Crushed ice
Shake all ingredients to combine. Strain over crushed ice into a glass of your choice.
