4 Pools Heating Up This Summer

The crystal waters in our pools may be cool, but the activities around the water are straight sizzling. Spend your summer days laying poolside, where there’s plenty of entertainment to take you all the way through Labor Day.

The Kimpton Goodland
Goleta, California

Kick off the weekend with Friday dive-in movie nights at The Kimpton Goodland.

The heartbeat of the hotel, The Kimpton Goodland’s pool sits in the center of it all, flanked by fire pits and a grassy lawn. Start the weekend off right with dive-in movie nights on Fridays, when the pool deck is outfitted with a big screen that plays a mixture of nostalgic favorites and indie films before they hit it big. Every weekend afternoon, a DJ spins tunes—and on Saturdays the selections are all vinyl, in keeping with the theme of their new record shop, VNYL. Take the tempo down a bit on Sunday mornings, when poolside yoga is a big draw; just bring the mat from your room to join in on the sun salutations. Not staying here? Not to worry: locals who want to get in on the action can buy a day pass to access the pool happenings.

Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix
Phoenix, Arizona

Giveaways that you’re in Phoenix: sunny blue skies and killer mountain views.

No city knows sun better than Phoenix—it does have the highest percentage of sunny days for a major U.S. city, after all—so it stands to reason that the pool game is on-point. 100 Days of Summer, a series of events running from Memorial Day to Labor Day, centers around LUSTRE Rooftop Bar, the third-floor pool deck featuring cabanas with killer views, craft cocktails and seasonal menu items.

Bottle service at LUSTRE is the perfect refreshing summer treat.

On Saturdays and Sundays the pool will open at 11 a.m., with live bands and DJs to entertain both hotel guests and the general public. Thursdays at 7 p.m., the Sutra Yoga Series will feature DJs spinning music during class. And all throughout those magical 100 days, special events will keep the pool the place to be—like the Swimsuit Fashion Show, presented by Urban Outfitters on July 9; the “Bring Back the ’80s” Pool Party on July 23; and three-day blowout bashes around Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt
Austin, Texas

Warm sun, a cool pool and home-away-from-home fireplace ambiance set the stage for outdoor fun in Austin.

Summer jams and delicious cocktails join forces for the On Deck @ Geraldine’s series at the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt. On the fourth-floor pool deck—featuring vistas of Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin—grab a spot in a shaded cabana or on a lounge chair as you listen to the guest DJ and sip specialty drinks. Upcoming events include Memorial Day with DJ I Wanna Be Her on May 29; Father’s Day with DJ Mixer Rogers on June 19; and Labor Day/End of Summer with Body Rock ATX on September 4. Each pool party runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is open to both hotel guests and the public.

Kimpton Hotel Solamar
San Diego, California

Gearing up for the evening at LOUNGESix.

Kimpton Hotel Solamar puts the “sun” in “Sunday” with Club Flamingo at LOUNGESix, a weekly six-hour pool party that stretches from noon until 6 p.m. Pack a swimsuit and shades, and get ready to float the day away in this rooftop oasis while you cool down with artisan cocktails and nosh on snacks like rosemary French fries. Take the experience to the next level with a private cabana or bottle service—book one of these, and you’ll get a pool boy (aka, a server assistant) to call your own. The fun continues all week long, especially on Friday nights when you’ll find everything from networking happy hours to trunk shows.
