4 New Ways to Date Night from Home

We know planning a regular date night is already hard enough under normal circumstances. In our current normal, however, an extra dose of creativity can make for a modern storybook romance. These ideas give you something to look forward to – make them your own.

For Outdoor Lovers: Urban Camping

Dust off your flannel shirt and pick your favorite national park for a dose of Mother Nature, thanks to the National Park Service. Really living up to their “Leave No Trace” credo, they’ve pulled together virtual tours of Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Arches and more. To take it up a notch (and if you’re lucky enough to have a backyard), pitch a tent and spend a night or two under the stars. Roast s’mores by a fire pit too, because you can. Living room spaces are also fair game (except for the s’mores, of course)!

Bonus: if you have little ones, their kid’s portal and junior ranger programs are packed with activities and downloadable books for both education and entertainment.

For Art Lovers: Museum Tours

Art is meant to be enjoyed by the masses and, with most of the masses in social lockdown mode right now, the greatest art museums around the world are bringing the experience to you. From Musée d’Orsay in Paris to Museo Frida Kahlo in Mexico City and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, experience their most popular collections through Google’s immersive Arts & Culture program. Kimpton x Fotografiska’s exclusive photography installation depicting three female artists is also on virtual display, complete with audio guides and a VR tour.

Flaunt your date night best and, since standard museum rules don’t apply, pop open a bottle of wine and feel free to use your outdoor voices to explore, explore, explore.

For Music Lovers: Indoor Festivals & Concerts

Missing Outside Lands? Turn it into Inside Lands. No matter your favorite music genre, there’s a live stream (or three) for you. Billboard magazine has a running list of digital programs to bookmark on any given day. Make guilty pleasure festival snacks, create makeshift photo backdrops and draft up a music program of all the artists you want in your dream line-up.

If you’re one for the limelight, online karaoke can be as polished as an official app and a subscription, or with scrappy DIY via YouTube videos and on-screen lyrics. Buy a handheld mic, turn on some strobe lights and channel your inner Bowie.

For Book Lovers: Reading Nights

If you need a much-needed break from any type of screen, slow down and indulge in reading a few chapters of a shared book with one another. Make it hygge with blankets, candles and hot cocoa and, who knows? It could become your new favorite bedtime ritual.
